A little girl barefoot
Her skirt revealing her scarred legs
Sitting on the ground, her head on her knees, her hands busy drawing abstract shapes in the soil
Strong limbs, strong arms
Yet her childhood is in her eyes
Her plea is in her feet , her bare feet
She wants to grab the earth solid, strong, steady
And the life that the earth feeds her
The earth is her, she knows it
And her life is threatened by unspoken, palpable, penetrating forces
She doesn’t know yet,
Yet she knows…
Her little lips are curled with a tiny smile
At the impossible rushing of the ants
The tips of her fingers feel the sorrow
Of all the elements
What will she have to sacrifice
To grow up
Her true self, her true mother?
She doesn’t want to forget
The generous hands holding her in abundance
The love that fills her tiny body to the atoms
The beauty that inspires her wildest dreams
The freedom and the connection
She wants to remember
And immerse in ongoing procreation of earth
As a budding tree, as a pollinating bee, as a flowing river,
as a breathing cloud
this is her childhood affair
which she is determined
should be her full time job
